Car theft suspect crashes car, apprehended after fleeing

An alleged car theft who was intoxicated was arrested after he crashed a stolen pickuo on Hatch Road near Payne Avenue on Saturday evening.

Ironically, an officer had just been flagged down by the owner of the vehicle at 8:23 p.m. to report the tan 2013 Chevy Silverado pickup was just observed in the area of Hatch Road and Central Avenue. As the officer was checking the area for the car, he heard a loud crash coming from behind him as he was westbound on Hatch Road at Central. The rear-end collision had occurred closer to Payne Avenue and the suspect was running away on foot.

Witnesses pointed out his direction and police found him running through a yard on Payne Avenue.

The man, who was uncooperative and had no ID, gave police his name as Ruben Garcia-Calderon, 23, of Ceres. He was arrested and charged with auto theft, hit and run and DUI.
