Cerean arrested for kidnapping, sexual assault

Miguel Angel Soria Jr. of Ceres was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on Jan. 27 for a Jan. 24 assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, sexual assault and kidnapping that started in Ceres.

Riverbank Police Services deputies responded to a 5 p.m. call on Jan. 24 for a woman on the ground in front of the El Sumeri Market, 6132 Terminal Avenue. Deputies found the 39-year-old victim lying on the ground with multiple injuries. She was transported to the emergency room for treatment.

The victim told deputies that 23-year-old Soria had kidnapped her from in front of a residence in Ceres.
Soria allegedly threatened her with a weapon and sexually assaulted her before driving her to the El Sumeri Market in Riverbank. The victim was able to get out of the suspect's vehicle at the market and tried to escape. Soria Jr. struck the victim with his car and then fled the area.

Modesto police picked up Soria on Jan. 27 after seeing him speed on Briggsmore Avenue in Modesto. He was followed to Terminal Avenue and Plainview Road in Riverbank where they made a traffic stop and arrested him.
