A 31-year-old motorcycle rider from Ceres sustained fatal injuries when he crashed as he and about 10 other riders were fleeing from a Modesto Police sergeant who saw them speeding Friday evening.

Ubaldo Valdivias, 31, of Ceres, died of injuries at a hospital in Modesto after he and two other riders allegedly ran a red light on 14th Street and collided with a car.

The sergeant was on patrol at 10:15 p.m. on Tenth Street near K Street and saw about 10 motorcycles racing and when he went to stop them they sped off eastbound on K Street. There was no pursuit as the riders continued on K Street and three collided with the car. One rider continued with the rest of the group which made it through the red light unscathed. Valdivias and another rider, Cipriano Cerna Jeromino, 27, of Merced, were taken to the hospital. Jeromino suffered a knee injury but Valdivias expired.
