A 43-year-old Ceres man faces charges of attempted murder and violating his parole after he allegedly stabbed his roommate Thursday afternoon.

The stabbing in the 3900 block of Podocarpus Drive was reported at 4:14 p.m.

Officer Christian Izquierdo met up with the victim in the 1900 block of Boothe Road after he fled the residence where the stabbing occurred.  The victim reported that he was conversing with his roommate, Shane Smith who then pulled out a kitchen knife from his jacket and lunged at him in a jabbing motion. The victim quickly took a step back, but the point of the knife made a minor cut into his chest. After this happened, the victim fled and called 9-1-1.

The victim declined medical attention.

Ceres Police learned that the crime occurred at another location where Smith still was located. They surrounded the home and made announcements for Smith to come out. He surrendered after several minutes.
