Following a lengthy investigation, Modesto Police Department Traffic investigators arrested Raymond Hansen, 51, of Ceres, for the hit-and-run death of pedestrian Richard Lane.

Lane, a 59-year-old homeless veteran, died from injuries 29 days after sustaining injuries in an April 13, 2019 collision in the Salvation Army Family Store parking lot on Yosemite Boulevard. Lane was reportedly sleeping when he was struck.

Hansen was arrested June 5 in the area of Empire Avenue and Lapham Drive in Modesto. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

Hansen was identified as the responsible through witness statements.

The family of the victim spoke with him before he died. He told them that he would like to see justice. “He was a good, kind, loving man and he didn’t deserve this,” his sister Laura Moskowitz told reporters.
