An early Wednesday morning shooting that took the life of a young man and left another male seriously wounded, was likely the result of gang activity, Ceres Police believe.
Two men were shot at approximately 2 a.m. at Riverview Park north of Hatch Road and west of Moffet Road.
Officers arrived in the 2700 block of Riverpark Drive and located a deceased male in the roadway and a second male found nearby suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Patrol officers secured the area and Ceres Police detectives responded to the homicide scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a group of individuals was gathered at Riverview Park when they were confronted by multiple unidentified males in a vehicle. During the confrontation, several gunshots were fired at the victims.
The investigation remains active, and the motive is still unclear. Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact Detective Welsh at 209-538-5616.
