Stanislaus County Sheriff's detectives are seeking clues from the public to apprehend the man who tried in December to kidnap a 13-year-old girl on South Seventh Street just outside of Ceres.

The attempted kidnapping occurred at around 4 p.m. on Dec. 19 as the teenage girl was walking home on South Seventh Street and a man in a truck stopped, got out and tried to pull her into it. The victim managed to escape the suspect's grasp and run to safety by hiding from him until he left the area. She was picked up by a family member and they called the Sheriff's Department.

The truck was described as a green mid-to-late 1990's Ford F150 with dents on the driver side door and rear bumper. The truck had a 49ers headrest and a red scented tree air freshener hanging. The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic man in his 40s with dark curly hair and a goatee.

Detective Greg Buck is asking for the community's help in locating the suspect.

He may be reached at 525-7103. Anonymous tips may be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. Tipsters can also e-mail tips at http://www.modestopolice.com/CrimeStoppers, or text them to 274637 by typing Tip704 plus the message and be eligible for a cash reward.
