A rooster fighting operation was shut down in the 1500 block of Grimes Avenue in southwest Modesto on Sunday morning and 20 men were arrested.

Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the residence at 10:15 a.m. from somebody who reported dog fighting. They arrived and found evidence of a rooster fighting operation in the backyard. Several men ran when deputies arrived but 20 were detained, including the resident, Efrain Marcucci, 37.

Deputies found an enclosed pin to fight roosters and metal fighting spurs. Approximately 300 live roosters and approximately 50 dead roosters were also found in the back yard. Marcucci was arrested for animal cruelty and Animal Control responded to take custody of all the roosters.
