The sighting of a cracked windshield on a black 1996 Honda Civic on eastbound Whitmore Avenue led a police officer to the discovery of a stolen car on Wednesday evening, May 6.

Solomon Chavez, 28, of Ceres, was stopped at 8:15 p.m. at Whitmore Avenue and Kay Street in a car that was so recently stolen that its owner in Modesto hadn't noticed that it was missing. Chavez had a suspended license and told the officer that the car belonged to a friend and asked for it not to be towed. Chavez appeared nervous and said he wanted a lawyer when asked if the car could be searched. The officer arrested him on the misdemeanor warrant and searched him and found two shaved keys in his pocket while the ignition also contained a shaved key.

He was arrested on charges of possession of a stolen car, possession of burglary tools, and driving on a suspended license.
