Receiving a ticket for violating the vehicle code and driving without a license would have been a lesser charge than the one a Delhi man is getting for trying to flee an officer on Thursday afternoon.

Daniel Huerta, 36, of Delhi now faces charges of evading police in a vehicle and driving without a license.

At 1:09 p.m., Ceres Police Officer Charles Lord-Huff was patrolling the area of Hatch Road near Crows Landing Road when he attempted to stop Huerta for vehicle code violations made while riding a Suzuki motorcycle. Huerta fled eastbound on Hatch Road with the officer pursuing him. At Central Avenue, Huerta abandoned his motorcycle and tried running from the officer but he was quickly apprehended and arrested.
