A 26-year-old Ceres man accused of punching the woman he had been dating for several months was arrested Nov. 19 after he attempted to run from police.

Ceres Police Officer Roger Khuon took the report of the physical assault involving Daniol Lopez, 26, of Ceres and his victim. The woman showed visible redness and swelling. Based on her statements, the injuries, and corroborating witness information, Officer Khuon established probable cause for an arrest warrant.

Ceres Police Officer Eric Souza attempted to find Lopez and spotted him walking his dog along the north side of Laurel Avenue near Hemlock Avenue. Lopez ran and concealed himself alongside a home.

With help from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department helicopter and a police canine unit, Lopez was found hiding in a nearby yard and arrested. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety on domestic violence charges.
