A 22-year-old Modesto man who slammed into the back of a Gilton Solid Waste truck and trailer on Mitchell Road early Sunday morning was arrested and booked on suspicion of drunken driving.

Officers were dispatched at 2:20 a.m. to the crash site on Mitchell Road and Whitmore Avenue. A white Honda Accord driven by Omar Zavala-Castillo, 22, of Modesto, had rear-ended the Gilton truck/ trailer. Officers determined that Zavala-Castillo was speeding southbound Mitchell Road. His car sustained major damage with parts scattered all over the roadway.

Zavala-Castillo sustained minor injuries and appeared intoxicated.  He refused to do any field sobriety tests and submitted to a blood draw to determine the alcohol content in his blood before his booking. The driver of the Gilton truck was not injured and was able to drive away with minor damages to the back of the trailer.
