A Ceres Police officer chased down a drunken driver who fled the scene of a hit-and-run crash at Whitmore Avenue and Ninth Street early Sunday.

At 1:59 a.m. Ceres Police were called to a crash of two vehicles in which one had left the scene. As Officer Ross Bays arrived he spotted the one vehicle leaving westbound on Lawrence Street from Ninth Street. Bays chased down the driver, 23-year-old Stockton resident Shawn Morales who appeared to be intoxicated.

Morales was placed under arrest for DUI and hit-and-run causing injury. Morales submitted to a breath test and the results were .17 percent Blood Alcohol Content, over twice the legal limit. Morales was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to the hospital with a non-life threatening head injury.
