In full view of a Ceres Police officer, an intoxicated 26-year-old Livingston man tried to get onto the freeway going the wrong direction and nearly hit three vehicles on Thursday morning.

At 11:37 a.m., Officer Coey Henson saw a blue Volkswagen Jetta attempting to enter the freeway from El Camino Avenue through the southbound Highway 99 Whitmore Avenue off-ramp. The Jetta nearly hit three other vehicles before making a U-turn on the off-ramp and returning to El Camino Avenue. Officer Henson stopped the driver, Randeep Atwal, 26, of Livingston, who appeared to be drunk. Officer Henson conducted a DUI investigation and determined the Atwal was too drunk to be driving.  He was arrested and booked for DUI after a breath test determined that he was over twice the legal limit.
