An intoxicated 35-year-old Modesto man crashed his car during a short-lived Thursday morning pursuit and was arrested.

Claudio Ramirez was also found to in possession of a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine.

The incident unfolded at 12:32 a.m. when Ceres Police Officer Angel observed a gray-colored Toyota Camry being driven erratically and violating several vehicle code violations in the area of Magnolia and 9th streets. Officer Murillo caught up to the vehicle and attempted an enforcement stop but Ramirez failed to stop. The pursuit ended when Ramirez failed to negotiate the roundabout at the Park Street overpass and El Camino Avenue. The car ran down the embankment where Ramirez was arrested.

Officer Murillo suspected that Ramirez was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for evading police in a vehicle and DUI.

When police discovered the cocaine, Ramirez earned an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Ramirez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
