Javier Covarrubias, 38, of Modesto, faces burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony weapons, and violation of probation charges, after his early June 3 arrest behind a business office at 1656 Herndon Road.

A silent alarm went off at the office of BIC Security at 2:02 a.m. and, when the officer arrived, he found Covarrubias milling around. The suspect said he was there to plug in his cell phone at night. Because he was on probation and searchable, officers searched his backpack and found 20 hypodermic syringes along with drug paraphernalia. Police also found a small billy club, which Covarrubias said he used for protection.

Because a shed on the property appeared to be broken into, Covarrubias faces a burglary charge.
