Drug & gun charges for man who ran from Ceres Police

A 58-year-old Modesto man faces multiple criminal charges after running from Ceres Police during a Tuesday, Jan. 25 traffic stop and found with drugs and a loaded gun.

At 8:41 a.m., Officer Aaron Pinon stopped a black 2002 Mercedes Benz atHatch and Herndon roads. Passenger Daniel Vargas, 58, of Modesto, fled on foot. He captured in the 1300 block of Hatch Road by Pinon and Officer Lydia Prieto.

A search turned up a loaded firearm in his waistband and suspected methamphetamine in his pockets. A records check revealed Vargas cannot legally possess a firearm or ammunition. Vargas was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, carrying a concealed and loaded firearm, possession of an illegal substance while armed and resisting arrest.
