A 60-year-old Turlock man was arrested at the end of a Monday evening police pursuit ending in Modesto where police learned that he not only had warrants but was also in possession of suspected fentanyl.
The chase began at approximately 6:38 p.m., when Ceres Police Officer Angel Diaz was patrolling the area of Giddings Road near Richland Avenue and attempted to stop the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu for vehicle code violations. The driver, Danny Armenta, 60, of Turlock fled and a pursuit ensued through the north part of Ceres before getting onto northbound Highway 99.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department helicopter crew arrived to track the Malibu while officers on the ground backed off on their speed and followed far behind at safer speeds.
Armenta was arrested after he pulled into an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Veneman Drive and began hopping fences. A police canine stopped Armenta with his teeth.
Officers traced Armenta’s path and found a discarded a container that had a white, chalky substance believed to be fentanyl in a backyard where four children were playing. Additionally, the same substance was located on Armenta’s driver seat as well as several glass pipes.
A records check showed that he had a felony arrest warrant.
Armenta was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for the felony warrant, evading police in a vehicle, traveling against traffic while evading, child abuse, possession of a controlled substance for sales, possession of a controlled substance with two or more priors, resisting arrest and destruction of evidence.
