copteaserbox .tif

A call about a suspicious female in the area of Central Avenue and Darrah Street prompted officers to be in the area at 2:21 p.m. on Sunday who then discovered a man hiding in a laundry room where there were drugs.

Officers were in the 1900 block of Darrah Street when Jamie Mendez, 31, of Ceres, started running away. He was chased into a laundry room of an apartment complex which yielded marijuana, unused meth pipes, scales and a homemade tomahawk. Mendez denied owning the contraband. He was released but the items were seized to be destroyed.

Sgt. Jose Berber said that drug activity seems to be on the rise on Darrah Street and the department can use any tips leading to arrests. Anyone who sees suspicious activity is invited to call Ceres Police Department on its non-emergency line at 538-5713. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
