Michael Metcalf, 48, was arrested for drug possession on Thursday, Jan. 8 after an officer observed him throwing a metal bar at a canal sign in the area of Hatch and Stonum roads.

The officer was westbound on Hatch Road at 2:36 p.m. when he saw Metcalf throwing an object at a warning side on north. Thinking vandalism was occurring, he stopped and spoke to Metcalf, who was on probation for drugs and searchable. A search produced two plastic baggies containing methamphetamine in his pockets.

Metcalf was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
