DUI arrest made early Sunday
Ceres Cop Car

A 36-year-old Modesto driver was arrested early Sunday after an exhibition of speed witnessed by an officer who was at a store getting coffee.

At 1:50a.m. the officer was at the Chevron station at the corner of Service and Mitchell roads when he heard and saw a gold-colored Ford Taurus peeling out onto the road and speeding toward Mitchell Road. The officer got into his patrol car and caught up with Louie Savala, 36, of Modesto. After turning on his lights, the two cars skidded to a stop due to wet pavement. The driver then revved up his engine and dropped it back into drive and took off, said Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jason Coley. The officer pulled Savala over a second time. The officer detected signs that the driver was intoxicated. A breath sample blown into the Breathalyzer revealed a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.16, which is twice the legal limit.

Savala was arrested and booked on charges of DUI and reckless driving.
