A heavily intoxicated 30-year-old Salida man was arrested Aug. 16 after he was seen swerving down Caswell Avenue and ignoring a stop sign.

At 2:20 a.m. Ceres Police Sergeant Travis Hudson got behind an older Chevy El Camino driven by Domingo Perez. The car was swerving, going at speeds greater than permitted and blew through the stop sign at Moffett Road and Garrison Avenue without even slowing down.

Hudson stopped the car at the AM/PM at Whitmore and Ninth. The driver’s breath smelled of alcohol and he spoke with slurred speech. Hudson also saw a bottle of Maddog 20/20 on the passenger floorboard. Perez said he was coming from the Family Pizza where he says he consumed a pitcher of beer before getting behind the wheel. Perez failed a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer test showing a 0.23 percent Blood Alcohol Content (BAC), nearly triple the legal limit.

Perez was booked into the Public Safety Center for DUI.
