DUI driver runs red, nearly hits police cruiser
Ceres Cop Car

A 22-year-old Ceres man was arrested on drunken driving charges Sunday evening after he allegedly ran a red light and nearly struck a police cruiser.

At 9:06 p.m. Officer Kevin Sakasegawa was driving northbound on Central Avenue and attempted to make a left onto westbound Whitmore Avenue when he had to take evasive action to avoid being hit by the car running the red light. The officer went after the driver, Anthony Cardoza, 22, of Ceres, and determined he was intoxicated. Cardoza registered a Blood Alcohol Concentration of .25, which is over three times the legal limit.

Cardoza was arrested and charged with DUI, and DUI with a BAC of .08 or above.
