DUI suspect crashes in Jack In The Box drive-thru
Ceres Cop Car

The main gas line to the Hatch Road Jack in the Box restaurant was severed Saturday morning and spewing gas when a suspected drunken driver missed the drive-thru lane and rolled between the building and the menu board.

Police cited and released driver Vanessa Morales, 27, of Modesto, to a family member but she faces charges of DUI.

The crash occurred at 5:12 a.m. Saturday when Morales rolled her 2009 Jeep over a curb guiding cars through the lane. Officer Kevin Sakasegawa arrived to find several employees running out of the building as escaping gas hissed from the severed line. The officer saw Morales trying to get her Jeep, which had high-centered over the cement curb line near the drive thru window, unstuck.

Morales reeked of alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated. She told the officer she thought it was about 12:31 a.m. when it was actually 5:24 a.m. Morales explained she had started drinking at a friend's house near Waynesboro Drive at around 12:30 a.m. and stopped drinking before they left the house. Morales said she drank a 12-ounce bottle of beer with two mixed drinks. Morales said the mixed drinks contained half to a full shot of Tequila.

Morales failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for DUI. A breath sample revealed her blood alcohol content was 0.19 percent - over double the legal limit.

The Jeep was towed.
