DUI suspect found with loaded gun

A 35-year-old Modesto man was arrested Monday evening when he was stopped by a Ceres Police officer and not only found intoxicated but carrying a loaded handgun under his seat.

Officer Tyler Wilson was patrolling the 1800 block of Hatch Road at approximately 9:30 p.m. when he stopped the driver of a Camaro for vehicle code violations. Officer Wilson suspected that driver James Miller, 35, of Modesto and under the influence of alcohol and he was subjected to a series of field sobriety tests which he performed in a manner consistent with someone under the influence of alcohol. Miller was arrested for DUI and provided breath samples that showed his blood alcohol content was over the legal limit.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded semi-automatic handgun under the driver’s seat.

Miller was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of DUI, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle.
