A 30-year-old San Jose man was arrested and booked for DUI and driving on a suspended license Wednesday evening, Sept. 2 after he sped down Mitchell Road in front of officers outside of their patrol cars.
Officers Eric Gallegos and Kevin Sakasegawa were with other officers outside of their patrol vehicles near the Triple R Gas station at Whitmore Avenue and Mitchell Road at 11:59 p.m. as they heard an engine accelerating and spotted a blue Ford F-150 racing southbound on Mitchell Road at an estimated over 70 mph. Officer Gallegos saw the pickup nearly rear-end another vehicle and swerved at the last seconds to miss it.
The officers jumped in their patrol vehicles and attempted to catch up to the vehicle as is made its way southbound on Highway 99 near the Keyes Road exit. The driver was still traveling at a high rate of speed, swerving across lanes of traffic but the officer was able to stop the Ford as it took the Monte Vista exit in Turlock where driver Angel Garcia was ordered out of the vehicle. Once detained, officers noticed Garcia was displaying symptoms of alcohol intoxication. At the conclusion of a DUI investigation, Officer Sakasegawa placed Garcia under arrest for DUI. His blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit.
