A 45-year-old Modesto man was arrested in Ceres on drug and gun charges during a Friday morning vehicle stop that originated with expired registration tags on his license plate.

At approximately 8:57 a.m., Officer Charles Lord-Huff was patrolling the 1700 block of Crows Landing Road when he observed a brown 2001 Honda Odyssey with expired registration. Officer Lord-Huff stopped the car and found that driver Robert Smith was on active searchable probation.

During the probation compliance check, Officer Lord-Huff located an illegal controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and a gun without a required serial number. Further investigation revealed that Smith is prohibited from legally possessing firearms or ammunition.

He was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
