Expired tags lead to drug arrest
Ceres Cop Car

A Ceres Police officer was drawn to a vehicle's expired registration tags in the Walmart parking lot Friday evening, which in turn led to the discovery of drugs in the car.

At 11:27 p.m. Officer Vince Hooper found driver Randy Heldstab, 34, of Patterson, had a suspended license and was on searchable probation for a prior drug conviction. Both Heldstab and passenger Monica Cardenas, 30, of Ceres, were taken out of the car for a probation search of the car. Hooper found two plastic baggies containing approximately an ounce of methamphetamine each and a glass pipe. Both claimed the drugs and pipe belonged to the other person. Both were booked for possession of methamphetamine for sale, transportation of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
