Four-hour car sit ends in drug arrest
Ceres Cop Car

A man who was seen sitting in his car in the Cruisers parking lot for approximately four years early Monday morning was arrested for drug possession.

The arrest came after Officer Miguel Villalobos made a car stop in the Cruisers parking lot at Mitchell Road and Whitmore Avenue at 12:31 a.m. Officer Coey Henson arrived a short time later as a backup. During the stop, they noticed a clerk inside the store pointing to a driver sitting in the driver's seat of another car. The officers saw that the man was acting nervous and looking in both directions as if we were planning a route to run. The officers approached the car and asked Craig Evans, 35, of Modesto, if he had any drugs since he appeared to be under the influence of drugs. That's when Officer Henson brought out his drug-detecting canine Dex to sniff the perimeter of the car. The dog signaled a detection of drugs inside the car. A search was conducted and Evans was found in possession of heroin, prescription pills that weren't issued to him and a hypodermic syringe.

The clerk later told officers that Evans had been sitting in the car since 8 p.m.

Evans was arrested and booked on charges of possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
