A 27-year-old Ripon driver led Ceres Police on a lengthy pursuit after he was seen speeding up the freeway Thursday evening.

At approximately 11:36 p.m. Officer Charles Lord-Huff observed a black Audi speeding up northbound Highway 99 at 92 mph near Whitmore Avenue and attempted to stop the driver, Mahakdeep Kahlon of Ripon.

After briefly braking, Kahlon accelerated and a pursuit was on. Air support arrived within seconds, allowing ground units to terminate active pursuit while continuing to monitor the vehicle. The suspect drove to his residence in Ripon at speeds reaching 120 to 130 mph.

Officers conducted a high-risk stop on Van Slyke Court with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol, Ripon Police, and the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies. Kahlon displayed signs of intoxication and admitted the reason he didn’t stop was because he had been drinking.

Kahlon refused taking a field sobriety test but consented to being transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for a blood draw and was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
