A 26-year-old homeless man was arrested last week for stealing the employee’s purse at a fast-food restaurant he was told to leave.

Rodolfo Maldonado-Lopez, 26, of Modesto, faces burglary charges relating to the theft on Wednesday morning, Oct. 2.

Maldonado-Lopez walked into the Carl’s Jr. on Hatch Road at 11:40 a.m. and reportedly demanded free coffee. Known for frequently coming into the restaurant and harassing customers, Rodolpho was asked to leave but he refused. When the clerk went back to get the manager, Maldonado-Lopez walked behind the counter and into the office where he grabbed the employee’s purse and ran out.

Officer Jeremy Caron recognized the suspect from the surveillance video and issued an Information and Belief warrant for his arrest on a burglary charge.

The next morning at 4:42 a.m. Officer Jonathan Blount spotted Maldonado-Lopez loitering outside a closed business in the 1500 block of Hatch Road and made the arrest.
