A citizen’s tip about the sale of illegal fireworks at the El Rematito Flea Market at 3113 Crows Landing Road in Ceres on Sunday resulted in their confiscation while the seller got away.

Police were tipped off at 12:33 hours, with two officers locating the booth where the illegal fireworks were on display. They attempted to locate the vendor but he fled prior to officers showing up. The contraband was seized for proper destruction, said Ceres Police Department spokesman Lt. Chris Perry.

He said his department will be enforcing illegal firework laws this year and encouraged citizens to purchase safe fireworks from vendors in the area as the Fourth of July nears.
