Calls about a man yelling at an apartment complex at 1920 Sequoia Street led to the arrest of the man on Wednesday, April 15 after he got into a Chevy pickup and drove away while intoxicated, say police.

Police dispatchers were called at 4:41 a.m. about the yelling of an unknown man. The reporting party said the man was seen previously in the complex with a gun. It was reported that the man drove off in a newer tan Chevy pickup.

According to Lt. Chris Perry, a Ceres Police Department spokesman, officers arrived in time to see the pickup leaving the scene. At first Anthony Hernandez, 26, of Ceres, accelerated but he immediately pulled over when the red lights were turned on. Hernandez took off running in the area of Lois Way. The suspect lost the officer but he was found moments later hiding behind a vehicle parked at 2029 Hollister Street. Initially Hernandez did not comply with police commands to come out and show his hand until a police canine was brought in and he decided to surrender when he heard barking.

Hernandez appeared to be intoxicated and was arrested for DUI and resisting arrest. Police also seized a .22 caliber magazine inside his vehicle.

A female passenger, Makayla Smith, 19, of Ceres, was arrested for a public drunkenness arrest warrant and possession of drug paraphernalia since she was found with a methamphetamine pipe.
