Irrizary homicide suspect turns self in
Luis Vega suspect
Luis Vega has been arrested in the Natasha Irrizary homicide.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department has arrested the second suspect wanted in connection with the July 8 shooting death of Ceres resident Natasha Irrizary, a 34-year-old mother of three.

Luis Vega, 36, turned himself into the Stanislaus County Jail on July 25. Previously arrested was Juan Carlos Martinez, 31, during a traffic stop at Highway 99 and Carpenter Road.

Both men have been charged with Irrizary’s murder which occurred at the Driftwood Inn, a seedy motel on South Ninth Street, as well as robbery and burglary allegedly committed at the location prior to the murder.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Erich Layton said that both Vega and Martinez are accused of pointing a gun at a male victim and taking his cell phone. The two suspects face a criminal enhancement to the homicide charge in the commission of a robbery.

Irizarry’s death leaves a void within her family, which included three girls, aged 13, 14 and 16. To support her family she worked as a filler operator with SunOpta in Modesto, drove for Uber and was paid to care for her diabetic and amputee mother and her 88-year-old grandmother suffering from dementia.

Sierra De Leon created a GoFundMe page to raise money for Irizarry’s funeral expenses and to make sure her girls are taken care of. As of Tuesday morning the page had raised $6,690 of the $10,000 goal. The website is https://www.gofundme.com/f/natasha-and-her-3-babygirls
