A 32-year-old Modesto man was arrested by Ceres Police Wednesday afternoon after he produced a knife and ordered a female teenager to drive him miles down Hatch Road to the Walmart store.

The 19-year-old woman from El Paso, Texas was filling up her car at the AM/PM at Hatch and Richland when a homeless looking man approached her asking for a ride. She turned him down and went inside to pay for the gas. As she finished pumping gas, the man produced a knife and demanded a ride to Walmart. Fearful that she might be stabbed, she drove him to the store a mile and a half away. Once the man climbed out, she fled the area and called 911 at approximately 3:59 p.m.

Officer Kao Saechao began investigating while other officers searched for the suspect. A short time later the victim’s husband reported that the suspect was at Hatch Road and Angie Avenue. Police arrested Jason Reeves Lopez and booked him for kidnapping at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
