Kids refuse to ride with drunken mom who is later arrested
Ceres Cop Car

Police were called to the Food for Less parking lot on Mitchell Road Friday evening after others heard a commotion being made because her children refused to get in the family vehicle because she was too drunk to drive.

Callers dialed 911 at 7:25 p.m. to report verbal arguments in the parking lot between Kelly McGovney, 35, of Ceres, and employees and her small children as they refused to get in the car with her. The children held to their resistance so McGovney left them and drove off, hitting a concrete pole in the parking lot before getting only a short distance away. Police found McGovney pulled over on Vineland Avenue and observed that she fell out of her van.

Ceres Police Department spokesman Lt. Chris Perry said McGovney was so intoxicated that she was taken to Doctors Medical Center by ambulance. She was arrested and charged with DUI and hit and run.
