Two Modesto men was jailed after being stopped in Ceres on Saturday evening and found to be in possession of a loaded “ghost” gun and illegal drugs.
At 11:45 p.m., Ceres Police Sgt. Aaron Pinon was patrolling the area of Mitchell Road near Hatch Road when he stopped Jose Rodriguez, 42, for vehicle code violations while driving a Chevrolet Silverado. Sergeant Pinon contacted Rodriguez and his 28-year-old passenger, Luis Duarte. During a search of the vehicle, a loaded semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine was located. The firearm was determined to be a “ghost gun,” meaning it didn’t have a serial number as required by law.
Rodriguez and Duarte were arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County the Public Safety Center. During booking, both Rodriguez and Duarte were found to be in possession of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.
Rodriguez and Duarte were both booked for possession of an undetectable firearm, possession of an unregistered firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, smuggling a controlled substance into a jail facility and possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm.
