Loitering in a shopping center and sitting atop of a newspaper rack flagged the attention of Ceres Police who arrested Matthew Ward, 30, of Modesto, on Sunday morning for two felony warrants.

At 11:37 a.m. Officer Miguel Villalobos stopped to speak to Ward who was wanted. After placing him into handcuffs, Ward attempted to run off but was stopped about 20 yards before being subdued and placed in a patrol vehicle. His attempted escape earned Ward an additional charge of resisting a police officer.

Matthew was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for the warrants and the new charge.
