A 46-year-old Modesto man, whose presence in front of a closed store in the 1400 block of Hatch Road flagged the attention of a Ceres Police officer, was arrested Saturday on a warrant and for possession of narcotics.

Officer Eric Souza was on patrol at 3:21 a.m., when he approached Richard Birts, 46, of Modesto to find out what he was up to. A records check revealed that Birts had a felony warrant for his arrest for possession of a firearm and was in possession of a controlled substance. Birts was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
