A 19-year-old Ceres man was arrested early Sunday after he attempted to flee from an officer who tried to pull him over for vehicle code violations.
At approximately 2:53 a.m., Ceres Police Officer Isaac Carter was patrolling the area of Standford and Rose avenues when he observed Jesse Underwood Vargas commit the code violation. Vargas refused to pull over and fled while turning off his vehicle headlights. The pursuit was on as the driver fled northbound, crossed Whitmore Avenue and traveled through residential streets before traveling southbound across Whitmore Avenue again. The pursuit ended on Evalee Court when Vargas realized he was trapped in a cul-de-sac. A high-risk stop was conducted to remove Vargas from the car at gunpoint.
Three passengers were released once the investigation was complete.
Vargas was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for evading police in a vehicle.
