A 35-year-old Modesto man with a history of drug related convictions was arrested early Tuesday, Feb. 10 after breaking into the city of Ceres’ equipment yard inside Smyrna Park.
An alarm went off within the fenced yard at approximately 12:16 a.m. Officers found that a portion of the chain-link fence had been cut and the padlock securing the gate had been cut. A bicycle was located next to the opening in the fence. As Officer Ian Perry began checking the yard for the culprit he found Emmanuel Dunerway running off with bolt cutters. Dunerway was ordered to stop but kept running. Officers gave chase and took him into custody.
A search of Dunerway turned up three cut padlocks and multiple burglary tools, including a crowbar, pliers, screwdrivers and sledgehammers. Officers also located a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, a folded dollar bill containing a white crystalline substance consistent with methamphetamine. Officers also found dozens of pieces of mail believed stolen, some containing Social Security cards, identification cards, benefit cards, personal checks, and other personal documents.
Dunerway has multiple prior narcotics-related and theft-related convictions. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of burglary, possession of personal identifying information of 10 or more individuals with intent to defraud, possession of a controlled substance with two or more prior convictions, petty theft with two or more prior convictions, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of burglary tools, and vandalism.
