Sheriff's detectives have arrested a man for murder in connection with the Friday morning discovery of a homicide victim at the Budget Inn at 581 South Ninth Street in south Modesto.

Authorities would not say how Barbara McClure, 58, of Modesto, died. Her body was discovered inside one of the rooms at 10:28 a.m. and reported as a medical emergency.

Initially the death was believed to be suspicious, but detectives are now investigating the death of McClure as a homicide. Detectives processed the crime scene and interviewed witnesses. Information came into the Modesto Police Department regarding the homicide investigation at the Budget Inn that led to 25 year-old Cody Clayton of Modesto being identified as a suspect.

Detectives are not releasing what the relationship was between the victim and Clayton, but based on their investigation they were able to identify Clayton as a suspect in the homicide.

Clayton was later arrested and booked at the Stanislaus County Jail for murder. Detectives are not releasing any other details regarding the investigation.
