Manteca man arrested for DUI in canal crash

A 45-year-old Manteca man was arrested after he fled the scene of a crash that sent one car into the TID canal along Hatch Road near Stonum Road on Friday evening, Nov. 21.

Officers located a Dodge Charger with major rear-end damage resting on the south sidewalk of Hatch Road while a Ford Edge was in the canal with major front-end damage.

Witnesses reported that the driver of the Ford ran from the scene of the 5:19 p.m. crash. Officers obtained a description of the man and determined that he ran in a southeast direction from the crash site. 

The incident was investigated as a felony DUI and felony hit-and-run, with the suspect outstanding.

The Sheriff’s Department helicopter flew over the scene and located the suspect, Jesus Corona, 45, of Manteca, lying low in a field near the crash site. Corona was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center by paramedics where he was treated and released to be booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center. His charges include driving while intoxicated and hit-and-run.
