Riding a bicycle on a sidewalk at night without lights led an officer to stop a bicyclist in the 1600 block of Herndon Road Wednesday, Sept. 18 and the discovery that he was carrying a small amount of methamphetamine and black tar heroin.

At 10:24 p.m. Officer Jon Blount stopped Porfirio Contreras, 47, of Modesto, after observing the violations. As he was being stopped, Contreras was seen reaching into his pocket and dropping something onto the ground. The items proved to be a small baggie containing methamphetamine and a folded piece of foil that contained a small amount of black tar heroin.

Contreras was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and released on a written promise to appear.
