Mismatched plates leads to arrest
Ceres Cop Car

A man was arrested Sunday evening after he fled an officer during a traffic stop made because his vehicle bore license plates that didn't match the registered vehicle.

At 9:25 p.m. Officer Justin Canatsy was on patrol in the AM/PM parking lot at Hatch Road and Richland Avenue and noticed a 1995 Acura Integra bearing a plate belonging to a Dodge. Thinking the car may be stolen, Officer Canatsy let Luis Antunez, 27, of Modesto, out of the car and started to handcuff him when the suspect broke free and took off running across Hatch Road. The officer chased him and caught up with Antunez near the IHOP. Antunez was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, driving without a license and having false plates/registration on the vehicle.

Ceres Police Department spokesman Lt. Chris Perry said the vehicle was not stolen but the Dodge plate did not belong on it.
