A 50-year-old Modesto man was arrested for drunken driving early Thursday after he drove to the AM/PM at Mitchell and Service roads.

Officer Brian Chandler was dispatched to the store at 2:27 a.m. to investigate a reportedly intoxicated male standing next to his car which had two front flat tires.

Officer Chandler located Edward Delarosa, 50 of Modesto, walking out of the store towards a vehicle that had a shredded right front tire and some bumper damage. Delarosa claimed he was on his way home from a day of golfing and that he had a flat tire, so he pulled into the parking lot to fix it. Delarosa’s breath reeked of alcohol and he appeared to be intoxicated. A witness told the officer that Delarosa drove into the parking lot moments prior.

At the conclusion of the DUI investigation, Delarosa was deemed too intoxicated to safely drive and was arrested and booked. A breathalyzer test revealed he was nearly twice the legal limit to drive.
