Police traced a two-year-old toddler wandering in the 3000 block of Tenth Street on Monday, Sept. 15 back to the mother in the 2700 block of Pyramid Avenue who appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Amy Steely, 28, of Ceres, also had the strong smell of marijuana on her when she was arrested in the 9:14 a.m. incident.
She was arrested and charged with child neglect.
Officers searched the residence and founddrug paraphernalia and marijuana strewn on the floor. They also seized possible evidence of drug sales.
Believing that the child may have ingested marijuana, paramedics were called to take the child to Doctors Medical Center as a precaution.
Child Protective Services (CPS) inspected the house. The city condemned the structure when it was discovered that illegal remodeling took place to convert the garage into two separate apartments.
