Officer sees DUI suspect crash twice
Ceres Cop Car

A 25-year-old driver found to be three times over the legal limit for alcohol was arrested late Saturday evening after Ceres Officer Kevin Sakasagawa was a witness to him crashing twice.

At 11:08 p.m. the officer was patrolling in the 1200 block of Aristocrat Drive when he heard a vehicle crash. He saw a car had struck a tree in the front yard of a residence and the driver, Patrick Gates of Ceres, starting to drive off. Gates traveled a short distance before hitting a parked car and disabling his vehicle.

Gates was deemed heavily intoxicated and according to the Breathalyzer reading had a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.25, three times the legal limit. He was booked on charges of DUI, and hit and run.
