An officer's suspicions about a man milling around a white Toyota truck parked on Sandpoint Drive near Fairview Drive resulted in an auto theft arrest on Sunday evening.

At 11:32 p.m., Officer Ross Bays was on patrol and saw Bradley McCullar, 29, of Modesto, standing near the pickup. He ran the license plate through the data base and learned the vehicle had been stolen in Modesto. McCullar was questioned and found with a shaved Toyota key, a common tool of auto thieves. Bays found a backpack inside the vehicle with mail belonging to McCullar, and also found another set of shaved keys to several different types of vehicles.

McCullar was arrested and booked for felony auto theft, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. While seated in back of Officer Bays' patrol vehicle McCullar dropped a small baggie containing methamphetamine. Officer Bays added the violation of possession of a controlled substance to his charges.
