Pair arrested for auto theft
Ceres Cop Car

Two persons have been arrested and booked on felony auto theft, possession of stolen property and probation violation charges after an officer found him in a stolen Honda Accord.

At 9:19 p.m. on Thursday, Officer Eric Souza was patrolling the area of Service and Morgan roads when he got behind a green Honda Accord and learned the license plate was registered to a 1992 Acura. The car pulled into the Quik Stop and driver Kaitlyn Marie Stolze, 25, of Modesto, got out and began to pump gas while passenger David Douglas Bratton, 59, of Modesto, walked into the store. Officer Souza detained Stolze and ran a check on the vehicle hull and learned the Honda had been stolen in Modesto. Other Ceres officers arrived on scene and apprehended Bratton.

Stolze said she suspected the car was stolen by the long screw driver stuck in the steering column that was used to start the vehicle. Stolze said she checked the VIN on a website to see if it was stolen and believed the vehicle was not stolen. Stolze said the vehicle belonged to another friend that she and Bratton knew. The other friend told Bratton that he had purchased the car for $300.
